Senior Strategic Leader for AI and Digital Innovation, Document Storage Systems

Mr. Robert “Rob” L. Gordon III has extensive senior management and cross sector experience in the high tech, military, government, and nonprofit sectors. He is the Senior Strategic Leader for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Innovation at Document Storage Systems (DSS), Inc, a health information software development and systems integration company. Rob is the former Chief Growth Officer of SBG Technology Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of DSS. During his tenure as a tech executive, Rob served as the Chief Global Officer of Connected Living, a company renowned for its innovative technology solutions to improve the quality of life in senior living facilities globally. Rob was also a senior executive at an augmented reality (AI) smart glasses software company, where he was responsible for overall business development, strategic planning, corporate partnerships, and strategic corporate communications.

Rob has led organizations in a variety of sectors. In 2010 Rob was appointed the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family where he was responsible for defensewide policy, program execution and oversight of more than $20 billion of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) worldwide military education, employment and community programs and initiatives affecting over four million military active duty service and family members, and two million retirees. For his Pentagon service Rob was awarded the prestigious Secretary of Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.

Prior to his Pentagon appointment, Rob was the Senior Vice President and Chief People and Program Officer at City Year, where he oversaw the organization’s recruitment, human resources, program and service, research and evaluation, and leadership development of City Year’s 1,600 corps members. An Airborne Ranger, he completed a 26 year career in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Colonel after serving in command and staff positions as an artillery officer, aide-de-camp to General Colin Powell; National War College instructor and graduate; and Academy Professor and Director of American Politics at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. As a White House Fellow from 1992 – 1993, he served as the Special Assistant to three Secretaries of Veterans Affairs . Rob also served in the Office of National Service in The White House, to help create AmeriCorps. He is the former President of Be the Change, a nonprofit focused on Veteran empowerment and national service.

Rob earned his BS from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a Masters in Public Affairs (MPA) from Princeton University, where he specialized in national health policy. He is a former French American Foundation Young Leader and a former board member of the French American Foundation. He serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations, including the Service Year Alliance and AVID. He is an advisor to several technology startups focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Veterans health, and city coordinated health care services. Among his awards and honors, Rob is the recipient of the Bernard Gill Urban Service-Learning Leadership Award from the National Youth Leadership Council; Princeton University’s Edward P. Bullard Distinguished Alumnus Award; two awards of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara; and the Franklin Award by the National Conference on Citizenship.
