Laura Brown is driven by a passion to transform the way food is viewed, aiming to position Food as Medicine within a holistic approach. As Director of Nutrition, Laura leads Kroger’s Food as Medicine team, touching all things where food and health intersect. Her team builds the Food as Medicine products and services for customers and patients, including OptUP® (Kroger’s nutrition rating system) and our telenutrition service. Laura also leads research efforts supporting the value of Food as Medicine and contributes to various policy efforts.

Laura joined Kroger in 2021 as a dietitian, working directly with patients nationwide to help them live healthier lives. In addition to being a registered dietitian and nutritionist, Laura is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as a personal trainer. She previously worked in this capacity and as the head of nutrition at Orange Shoe Personal Fitness. Aside from her deep nutrition expertise, clinical skills and performance management, Laura is also adept in communication, content creation, public relations, media events and brand activations through her prior work experience.

Laura earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Exercise Science from Miami University. She completed her dietetic internship at Emory University Hospitals in Atlanta.

Laura is a Cincinnati native and has two young girls with her husband David. She enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, regular runs with her dog, and is an avid musical theatre fan.
